Nato and Rowland unable to break into top-10 under lights in Saudi Arabia

Nissan Formula E Team had a disappointing Round 4 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in the first race of the double-header in Saudi Arabia.

Norman Nato qualified strongly, reaching the semi-final stage, while teammate Rowland missed out on the Duels. Starting fourth, Nato led for multiple laps ahead of his Pit Boost stop, but lost places later in the race against rivals in Attack Mode and crossed the line 13th. Meanwhile, Rowland was unable to make progress from 16th on the grid, with the current World Champion coming home 17th.

The duo returns to the track tomorrow for Round 5, with qualifying at 12:40 local time (UTC+3) and the race underway at 17:05.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “We just didn’t have the pace today, which is disappointing for the whole team. We knew qualifying would be important and Norman did a great job to make it to the semi-finals. In the race he was comfortable in the opening laps and led with good speed, but he dropped back after his Pit Boost stop and our lack of pace became even more evident after that. On Oli’s side, he also struggled with pace at the back, meaning he was unable to recover any positions and execute the strategy we had for him. For sure we have a lot of work ahead of tomorrow, and we will do our best to bring back the performance we were missing today and turn things around.”

“It was a tough day for us. I didn’t get too much running in FP2 after I clipped the wall and then we lacked some pace in qualifying. That made it difficult for the race, we used Pit Boost early to get clean air, which went to plan but ultimately it didn’t pay off. We’ll look to understand what happened today and react strongly tomorrow.”

“It’s disappointing to finish outside the points after such a good qualifying. I felt good in the car, began the race well and led comfortably for several laps. We then had a technical issue which affected our pace, and we were unable to do anything about dropping down the order. We knew qualifying would be important in the Pit Boost race, but the speed in the second half of the event wasn’t enough to score points. We really need to understand what happened and address the issues, so tomorrow we can aim to capitalize on the performance we’ve had all season.”
