Nissan Formula E Team scores points in Tokyo E-Prix opener

Rowland secures P7 after well-executed team strategy

Nissan Formula E Team clinched a top 10 finish during Round 14 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship today, as Oliver Rowland gained eight places to cross the line seventh at the Tokyo Street Circuit.

Both Rowland and his teammate Norman Nato were unable to progress to the Duels in hot and humid conditions, lining up 15th and 11th respectively.

In the E-Prix, which saw intermittent showers throughout, Rowland saved his energy well in the opening stages, with the team opting to make his Pit Boost stop later in the race. This strategy paid off as the Brit re-emerged in the top 10 and immediately took his six-minute Attack Mode. Rowland then made several clinical overtakes during the remaining laps, finishing seventh for the Japanese outfit. 

On the other side of the garage, Nato showed solid early pace, making his way into the points-paying positions. However, minor contact with another driver earned the Frenchman a five-second time penalty, which he served during his Pit Boost stop at the end of Lap 18. This cost Nato crucial time and, despite his best efforts, he eventually finished 16th.

Tomorrow’s on-track action gets underway at 13:30 local time (UTC+9) with Free Practice 3, before qualifying from 15:40. It’s then lights out for Round 15 at 20:05 to conclude the double-header.

Our result today was compromised by qualifying, with both drivers struggling to gain confidence in the car over one-lap. However, in the race a well-executed strategy allowed Oli to gain several positions and score points. Norman’s day was once again hindered by a time penalty, which had to be served in the Pit Boost stop, costing him crucial time. We’ll now work hard to understand what went wrong today, especially over one-lap, with full focus on achieving a better result tomorrow.”
