The squad misses out on top 10 in wet conditions

After a double top six finish yesterday, Nissan Formula E Team had a challenging second E-Prix of the weekend in Shanghai and didn’t manage to score points in the extreme wet conditions. Following a suspended FP3 and a challenging qualifying, Oliver Rowland started 17th and managed to gain four positions to finish 13th. Norman Nato lined up in 21st and battled through the tricky conditions, but ultimately couldn’t improve his position due to the limited visibility and lack of grip.

Formula E gets back underway on 21 June, with a return to Indonesia for the Jakarta E-Prix.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “Today we were aiming to improve on yesterday’s double points finish, but it was a very challenging day for everyone with the weather. The extreme conditions made overtaking very difficult, so starting at the back after a tough qualifying meant it was not possible for us to advance all the way into the top 10. It was a frustrating day for the whole team and, while we’re still leading the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Standings, we’ve lost our lead of the Teams’ Championship by one point. However, there are still five races and we’re ready to keep fighting until the end for all three titles.”

Oliver Rowland

“It’s a disappointing result today, but to be honest it was one of the hardest races I’ve ever done, with such limited visibility due to the spray, so it was just not possible today to do any more. Despite that, the weekend overall has still been a positive one, taking a good amount of points yesterday at a track that isn’t my favorite. We still remain in strong contention for all three championships, which is the focus heading into the final part of the season.”

Norman Nato

“We struggled today in the wet and tried a different set-up heading into the race, but still lacked pace and grip. We’ve shown great performance earlier this season in similar conditions, even though they’re not our most favourable. It was difficult and a day to forget, but that’s the way it can be in Formula E with pace and performance changing a lot from one day to the next. Overall, we can be pleased with the points we achieved yesterday; we will look to build on this heading to Jakarta and regain the lead of the Teams’ Championship.”
