Nissan e.dams drivers Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland have so far completed more than 250 laps and gathered significant amounts of performance data with their ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race cars at the official four-day preseason test at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Valencia, Spain.

Racing ahead into season seven, their third season together with Nissan e.dams, Buemi and Rowland retained their car numbers of #23 and #22, respectively. However, in honor of two of Nissan’s finest road-going all-electric vehicles, the drivers’ all-electric race cars were named ‘Nissan Ariya’ for car #23, and ‘Nissan LEAF’ for car #22. The cars will compete with their new names and familiar race numbers throughout season seven.

Speaking at the test, Tommaso Volpe, Nissan’s global motorsports director, introduced the team, drivers and updated race cars.

“It’s great to be here in Valencia with the team to test and develop our race car ahead of season seven,” he said. “2020 is a significant year for us. We celebrate our second place in season six, racing as Nissan e.dams. As Nissan, we also celebrate ten years since we launched the Nissan LEAF, the world’s first mass-produced all-electric car, with 500,000 cars produced so far.

“We also launched our new Ariya all-electric SUV. We’ve been making EVs for 70 years, so to commemorate our past, present and future in EVs, we will name our race cars ‘Nissan Ariya’ and ‘Nissan LEAF’. For Nissan, Formula E is the ultimate testing and proving ground to continue to build our EV expertise.”

Nissan is competing in Formula E to showcase its Nissan Intelligent Mobility vision for changing how vehicles are powered, driven and integrated into society, and to bring the excitement of powerful EV performance to racing fans worldwide.

“We’re very happy to be working with Nissan again for season seven,” said Gregory Driot, Nissan e.dams co-team principal. “Congratulations again to the whole team on taking second in the teams championship in what was a challenging year, and I want to say how excited we are to have Seb and Oli racing with us once more. And, of course, as we look to season seven, I must thank our brilliant partners, Shell, Richard Mille, LEMO and CFI. Their commitment and contributions help us achieve our targets every day.”

Nissan e.dams would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our partners.

PARTNER STATEMENTS

SHELL

“We’re excited to embark on another season in Formula E alongside our partners Nissan e.dams. Shell has long been focused on supporting our customers to transition to cleaner energy solutions by encouraging the uptake of low-emissions vehicles, such as electric vehicles, as an effective way of reducing transport emissions. 2021 will be an exciting year.

“Nissan shares our ambitions to deliver technological innovations from the racetrack to EV customers everywhere, and that is showcased in our ongoing partnership. Season seven marks our third season working with the team and, after the success of last season, we can’t wait to see what we can achieve together this year.”

– Joerg Wienke, Vice President Global Retail Marketing, Shell

RICHARD MILLE

“In the past our attention was focused on racing’s golden age in the 20th century – where pushing the technical parameters of the combustion engine, by drivers and car designers, paved the road to progress. Today, instead of merely reveling in racing’s long history and achievements, the time has come to support the present in order to actively shape racing’s future history – together with Nissan e.dams so that we can forge ahead in the joint exploration of the newest technological advances available to car racing in the 21st century and beyond.”

CFI

“At CFI, we’re proud to be continuing our partnership with Nissan e.dams into season seven, and look forward to the team delivering another strong performance. Just like the global audience for Nissan e.dams, CFI are massive fans of motorsport and have a history of supporting drivers, teams and championships. We feel there is a big crossover with the core skills and emotions involved in racing and trading. On a driver level, knowing when to enter a corner, hit the apex and accelerate away mirrors that of a trader, knowing when to open a trade, when to monitor and when to close. Both can be thrilling, exciting and rely heavily on world class technology and a team of experts to deliver the correct strategy.

“On a personal level we feel Nissan’s passion in creating innovative driving experiences, whilst being committed to zero emission solutions, aligns with our own ambitions of delivering the ultimate trading experience with zero commission trading.

“I’m sure season seven will bring more success to the team, and we’ll be watching every race.”

– Hisham Mansour, Founder & Managing Director, CFI Financial Group

DRIVER QUOTES

Sebastien Buemi

“I’m proud and happy to be back with Nissan e.dams again, and it’s great to be back with my racing partner Oli for a third season. As a team we did a great job last season with second in the teams championship, and for season seven we will push hard to take that final step to be first. We have some updates here in Valencia, and we are putting in the testing laps to improve the car still further. I’m really looking forward to driving my ‘Nissan Ariya’ in Santiago in January.”

Oliver Rowland

“I’m proud and excited to continue with Nissan e.dams for my third year in Formula E, and as always I’ll be looking forward to racing with Seb. I finished last year on a positive note, taking my first win for the team at the Berlin Finale, and I’ll be aiming to push myself to the next level for season seven to score some strong results. I can’t wait to go racing in my ‘Nissan LEAF’ in Chile.”
